Volleyball Scoreboard Guide: Live Scores on Every Court

A volleyball scoreboard is essential for keeping players and spectators informed during a fast-moving match. Volleyball uses rally point scoring, meaning every rally results in a point for one team.
Because scores can change quickly, a visible digital volleyball score screen provides an important reference throughout the match.
Volleyball Scoring at a Glance
- Best of 5 sets; first 4 sets played to 25 points
- The deciding 5th set is played to 15 points
- A 2-point lead is required to win any set
- Every completed rally scores a point
How Does Volleyball Scoring Work?
Under the standard indoor volleyball rules, a match is normally played as the best of five sets. The first four sets are played to 25 points, and the deciding fifth set is played to 15 points. A team must win a set by at least two points, so a set can continue beyond 25 points — for example 25-23 can finish a set, but 24-24 means play continues until a team establishes a two-point lead. See this volleyball rules overview for the complete format, including beach volleyball variations.
Multi Score Screen tip: the platform tracks both indoor set scoring (25/15 points) and beach volleyball formats (21/15 points), so one system covers a facility running either version of the sport.
Why Is a Volleyball Scoreboard Important?
Volleyball can generate points rapidly — a team can move from 18-17 to 21-18 within a short period of play. A visible volleyball scoreboard makes the match easier to follow: players can immediately see the score, coaches can monitor the game, and spectators can understand the match.

Digital Volleyball Scoreboard for Modern Facilities
A traditional electronic scoreboard can require dedicated hardware and installation. A software-based digital volleyball scoreboard can use an existing TV or large display instead — a practical solution for facilities that already have screens installed.
Volleyball Live Score for Spectators
Spectators should not have to ask which team is leading. A volleyball live score display can show team names, current points, set score, match progress and court information — for tournaments, leagues and events, this makes the viewing experience significantly clearer.
Rally Point Scoring Requires Accurate Updates
Volleyball uses rally point scoring, and every completed rally can change the scoreboard. That means the scoring interface needs to be simple enough to update quickly while the display remains clear for everyone watching.
One Score Screen for Eight Sports
Multi-sport facilities often need flexible technology. The same facility may operate volleyball alongside tennis, padel, badminton, squash and table tennis. Multi Score Screen supports all eight sports from one platform, allowing a venue to maintain one digital scoring environment instead of managing multiple independent scoreboard systems.
What Should a Volleyball Scoreboard Display?
| Information | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Team names | Identify teams |
| Current points | Show live score |
| Sets won | Show match progress |
| Match status | Identify current stage |
| Court number | Identify court |
| Club branding | Professional presentation |
| Sponsor area | Commercial opportunities |
How to Set Up a Volleyball Scoreboard
- Place the screen for players, benches and stands. A TV at one end of the hall, or on the side opposite the team benches, is readable from both halves of the court and from the stands.
- Check the TV and the network. Any TV with HDMI or a smart TV app works; the hall needs stable Wi-Fi or wired internet.
- Add the court and choose volleyball. In the admin panel, add the court, set the sport to volleyball, enter the team names and pick one of the six themes.
- Share the join code. The QR code and PIN open the live score on any phone, so supporters who cannot see the screen still know the score.
- Test a close set. Score a set to 24-24 and check that it continues until one team leads by two.
Scoring a Volleyball Match From a Phone
A member of staff or the scorer keeps the score in referee mode: one tap per rally, and the TV shows the set score, the sets won and the team names. Sets go to 25 with a two-point lead, and a deciding fifth set to 15. Supporters at home follow the same score through the QR link, and when the match ends a winner screen shows the set scores. Sponsor logos can appear in a strip beneath the live score, which gives clubs a simple way to offer local partners visibility on match days.
