A volleyball tournament scoreboard puts the live score of each match on a TV beside its court and lets the organisers run pools and brackets from one dashboard. Volleyball events have their own rhythm. Matches are longer than in racket sports, teams of six bring benches, coaches and supporters, and a sports hall may fit two or three courts side by side with a crowd in the bleachers. When every court shows its set score, the organising table, the teams waiting to play and the parents in the stands all know where each match stands without asking.

Why volleyball events need visible scores

A volleyball tournament usually runs pools in the morning and crossover or knockout matches in the afternoon. The organising table has to know which court will finish next, which teams have qualified and when to call the next pair of teams to warm up. Teams on the bench need the score for tactics, and spectators often cannot see a small table-top flip scoreboard from the bleachers.

Rally point scoring adds pressure: every rally changes the score, sets can swing quickly, and a 24-24 set can run on for several minutes.

What each court screen shows

Each TV shows a name for each side, the points in the current set, the set number, sets won and the serving team. The scoring follows the standard formats: indoor sets to 25 with a two-point margin and a deciding set to 15; beach formats with sets to 21 and a deciding set to 15. On Pro, Elite and Unlimited each side can carry its own team name and colour, which helps when two clubs in similar kit meet.

Pool matches are often played over two or three sets rather than five. If you plan short formats such as two sets, or a single set to a fixed score, check them with us when you request a demo so you see them working before the day.

Setting up the hall

  1. Number the courts on the dashboard exactly as they are marked in the hall.
  1. Switch each event court to tournament mode and choose volleyball.
  1. Enter the teams and pools, then assign the first matches to courts.
  1. Check that each TV shows its own QR code and PIN.
  1. Play a short test set and take it to 24-24 to watch the two-point rule.

During the day, the Court Status Board shows which courts are free, in play or reserved.

The scorer and the referee

Official volleyball has a referee on the stand and a scorer at the table. In referee mode, the scorer's phone becomes a console with plus and minus buttons for each team and a serve indicator, so the TV follows the official score as it is recorded. At club events without officials, the team that has just played often provides the scorer for the next match, which is a common volleyball custom. Mistakes are fixed with point or set undo. The phone side is covered in the volleyball scoreboard app guide.

Calling the next match

With every score visible, the organising table can see that one court is at 2-0 and 22-15 in the third set while another is level at one set each. Call the next teams to the court about to finish so they can start their warm-up as soon as the net is free.

Supporters in the bleachers

Each TV shows a QR code that opens the match live in any browser, so parents in the stands and team-mates waiting for their next game can follow any court. At the end of a match, the winner screen shows the set scores before the court resets. Player names and photos used for a match are temporary and are removed when it ends.

Sponsors on tournament day

Volleyball tournaments fill a hall with teams, families and coaches for most of the day. Each court screen carries a sponsor strip under the score, and between matches it can show full-screen images or video. Selling that space is covered in volleyball scoreboard sponsorship.

A school tournament, step by step

A school hosts a twelve-team tournament on three courts. In the morning, three pools of four play round robin, two sets per match, with the resting team providing the scorer. The organising table follows the status board and posts standings after each round. In the afternoon, the top teams play crossover semi-finals and a final on the centre court, set to the Gold theme with an adult volunteer scoring in referee mode. Beach events and outdoor sand courts are covered in beach volleyball scoreboard.

Brief the scorers

Before the first match, show each team's scorer the console on a spare court. Let them add a point, switch the serving team, undo a point and take a set to 24-24. Five minutes of practice prevents most disputes later.

After the event

Switch the courts back to rental mode so normal bookings resume. Statistics show reservations and occupancy by sport and export to CSV, useful for reporting to the school or club committee.

Licences for a tournament hall

Licences are per court on the TV already there. Starter covers one court and one sport at $44/month. Pro covers up to five courts and all eight sports at $134/month, with team names and colours. Elite covers up to ten courts with white-label branding at $224/month. Unlimited is a one-time $1,299 per court, with no term limit and optical sensors included. See the pricing page.
